Key Takeaways

  • Tax Help for Veterans: LERETA offers one-time grants to cover property taxes for veterans in Operation Homefront’s Permanent Homes for Veterans program.
  • Supporting Stable Homeownership: Grants go to veterans who complete financial and homeownership training, helping them maintain mortgage-free homes.
  • Veterans Share Their Stories: Jeremy C. said the grant eased stress while supporting his ill father-in-law. Keisha D. called the help a relief after an unexpectedly high tax bill.
  • LERETA’s Mission in Action: CEO Katie Brewer says the grants are a way to thank veterans and support their success as homeowners.

At LERETA, we take pride in delivering excellence at every turn—from reconciling a one-time exception for a single property tax report to ensuring a client’s large real estate portfolio’s property taxes are paid accurately and on time—each and every time. This commitment to excellence is why our Service Level Agreement metrics are consistently above 99%. But there’s something that we’re even more proud of and that’s being able to help veterans with their homeownership goals.

LERETA has expanded our partnership with Operation Homefront to offer LERETA Tax Grants, a program that offers homeownership assistance to military veterans with one-time grants that pay their annual property taxes. The initiative is part of Operation Homefront’s Permanent Homes for Veterans (PHV) program which provides mortgage-free homes to veterans who qualify and complete an intensive financial literacy and homeownership program.

Veterans who are selected to participate and successfully complete the PHV program receive the deed to their home, mortgage-free. They are then eligible to receive a LERETA Tax Grant to pay one year of taxes. “LERETA Tax Grants are our way of honoring veterans who’ve sacrificed so much for our country, but also to support their dedication in becoming responsible and successful homeowners,” said LERETA CEO Katie Brewer. “They’ve demonstrated enormous commitment to our country, and we’re delighted to lend a helping hand and say thank you with financial grants to support the homeownership journey for these heroes.”

Here are two of the LERETA Tax Grant heroes for 2025:

Jeremy C.—Hope Mills, NC

Sergeant Jeremy C. served 13 years in the Army, retiring in 2018, and during his service he was deployed to Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan. In 2019, Jeremy, his wife Amanda, and his two children moved into their Permanent Homes for Veteran’s home in Hope Mills, NC. Since completing the program in 2021 the family has grown with the addition of another child and Jeremy said he’s grateful to give his kids a stable home. They’ve experienced financial setbacks due to taking care of Amanda’s father who has cancer. “These tax grants mean the world, honestly,” he said. “Trying to plan out taxes and taking care of my father-in-law is stressful financially. These tax grants definitely take away some of the stress of having to save up extra money when we are already tight on funds. We are just grateful for the time with my father-in-law and the opportunity for this grant to help take some of the stress away.”

Keisha D.—Hockley, TX

Specialist Keisha D. served two years in the Army before receiving a medical discharge in 2003. Keisha and her two sons moved into their Permanent Homes for Veterans home in 2022. She completed the program in June of 2024. “Things have been great,” she said. “Our family has adjusted to the neighborhood and love the home. Our neighbors are great which is a treat. We have planted a new tree and put down new sod recently which was a very new experience.” As a single mother, Keisha has always been worried financially, supporting a household and two growing boys on her own. “My property tax bill was a more than I expected this year and that has been challenging. I am completely grateful for this tax grant.”

Supporting these veteran families is truly an honor for LERETA, and we salute the excellence they’ve brought in serving in the military with skill, bravery and courage. Helping them become responsible homeowners is just one small way we can say thank you.
